The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is a 10 bed, outpatient observation unit.  Typically, patients with chest pain, congestive heart failure or asthma are brought here from the Emergency Department if additional tests are needed for a diagnosis or if treatments are required.

The unit provides patients with a more comfortable, restful environment, outside of the Emergency Department, while they await results of their tests or for treatments to be complete.  The goal is to treat the patient and send them to their home in a short period of time, usually 23 hours or less.  The unit is continuously staffed by RNs with the assistance of technicians.  Family members are allowed to spend the day.
